Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro and Fondazione ICA Milano are joining forces in a new partnership aimed at infusing energy and expanding the international reach of the Arnaldo Pomodoro Sculpture Prize. Established in 2006 by Arnaldo Pomodoro, the award is dedicated to young artists seeking to refine and expand the experimental aspects of new work regarding expressive or intellectual languages.
The new partnership with Fondazione ICA Milano and the renewed curatorial approach of the Prize highlight the international themes and artistic visions that define it, with the goal of promoting contemporary art and supporting younger generations.
The Prize is one of the few awards specifically dedicated to sculpture and is open to artists between the ages of 25 and 45 whose individual research offers a reflection on the very idea of sculptural practice. With no constraints with respect to materials or practices, the Prize seeks to recognize artists who make a tangible contribution to the development of contemporary sculpture, highlighting the connections between past, present, and future.
The shortlisted artists will be invited to exhibit in a group show on the first floor of Fondazione ICA Milano (spring 2026), curated by Federico Giani and Chiara Nuzzi, curators of the two organizing Foundations.
The selected artists are: Bronwyn Katz (1993 – Kimberley, South Africa), Dan Lie (1988), Công Tùng Trương (1986 – Dak Lak, Vietnam), Luana Vitra (1995 – Contagem, Brazil) and Yu Ji (1985 – Shanghai, China).
Each finalist will present a new artwork, which will be considered in the final evaluations by the Jury. The winner of the Prize will be announced during the opening of the group exhibition scheduled for 2026.
The Nominating Committee includes: Alvin Li (Curator of International Art, Tate Modern, London), Diane Sousa da Silva Lima (Independent Curator), Gabi Ngcobo (Director, Kunstinstituut Melly, Rotterdam), Billy Tang (Executive Director & Curator, Para Site, Hong Kong), and Gaëtane Verna (Executive Director, Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus, OH).
The Jury is chaired by Anne Reeve (Curator, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington) and consists of Federico Giani (Curator, Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro), Sohrab Mohebbi (Director, Sculpture Center, New York and member of the Scientific Committee of Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro), Julia Morandeira Arrizabalaga (Director of Study, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía), and Chiara Nuzzi (Curator and Editorial Manager, Fondazione ICA Milano).
